IELTS Writing Task 1 - Line Graph and Table
The Global water graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water consumption in two different countries.
The graphs comparing the amount of water used for the use of agriculture, industry and households worldwide, and the water in Brazil and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Clearly global needs for water increased significantly between 1900 and 2000, and that agriculture accounted for the largest proportion of water used. We can also see that water consumption was significantly higher in Brazil than in the Congo.
In 1900, about 500 km ³ of water used by the global agriculture industry. Consumption figures for industrial and domestic water stood at about one-fifth of that amount. By 2000, global water use for agriculture had increased to about 3000 km ³, industrial water use had risen to a little less than half of that amount, and domestic consumption had reached about 500 km ³.
In 2000, the population of Brazil and the Congo were 176 million and 5.2 million, respectively. Water consumption per person in Brazil, to 359m ³, was much higher than in the Congo, only 8m ³, which could be explained by the fact that Brazil had 265 times more land under irrigation.
